I truely do not understand people sometimes. I was over in the closest shopping center (right across from my high school) with one of my kids, having just come out of a successful interview for a volunteer position for said kid. we stopped by Walrus ice cream to celebrate, and the woman behind the counter starts chatting. I tell her that i help my kids get job experience and training before being put out into the real world, and she starts talking about how they tried to participate in the same program from the other high school, but that it didnt work.
“I mean, the kid was so dumb, she couldnt even work the register.”
i sputtered, i couldnt even talk i was so mad.
the kid is SPECIAL ED. did you try TEACHING her how to use the register?
you have 2 choices here:
1) you can teach the kid how to do the job, keeping in mind it will take a little longer and need more patience
2) you can pay taxes to support this kid for the rest of her life because you didnt bother to help her get/stay employed.
gah.
