Went to see Finding Nemo last night, and i was mondo impressed. Why?
Because Nemo is a special ed fish
Im completely serious. he has a small fin, and one of the sidestories is dad learning to let him do it his way, and that Nemo isnt helpless. its awesome.
in case you are wondering why i think this is so nifty, im a sped teacher, and its incredibly cool to see a movie where the handicap isnt the basis of the whole movie, and this big drama thing, but instead is just something that is there and life keeps going and its NO BIG DEAL.
near the beginning, Nemo is going to school for the first time, and three of the other kids ask about his fin. dad says, “he was born with it, its his lucky fin.”
kids ponder.
one tells nemo, “one of my tentacles is shorter than the others”, next kid: “Im H2O intolerant.” And the last kid offers, “Im obnoxious!” its just beautiful
and amazingly enough, Ellen Degeneras did not make me want to stab myself in the eye. I actually liked her. Especially when she decided to adopt a jellyfish and name him Squishy and take him home and he will be hers. Her Squishy. *snicker*
